About
Built out of frustration
Moston was born out of frustration. The frustration of an engineering manager spending their days in 1:1s, syncs, and retros, making decisions about people, their growth, their objectives, their trajectory.
And constantly feeling the same thing: running out of memory. Not intelligence, not method, just memory. Notes scattered across Notion, Slack, and a notebook. Showing up to 1:1s trying to piece the context together on the fly. Commitments disappearing into the noise, not out of carelessness, but because no system was there to hold them.
A real manager's tool didn't exist. Not an HR system pushed by the People team. Not Linear or Jira, which are built for the team. Something personal, designed for the reality of technical management: multiple 1:1s a week, weak signals, promises made without realising it, the difficulty of tracking an engineer's progress over time.
So Moston was built.
Why Moston?
The name is a combination, the first letters of a surname and a first name. Short, memorable, personal. Like the tool itself: designed first for personal use, then shared.
What Moston actually does
Moston centralises everything about your team members: your meeting notes, commitments made, open topics, ongoing objectives. Before each 1:1, it generates a contextual brief, based on your history, the engineer's Git activity, and active signals. Afterwards, it extracts the actions and tracks them for you.
You can also ask it questions directly: "Where does Marc stand on the migration?", "What commitments did I make this week that I haven't kept yet?" It answers based on your data, not guesses.
The core idea: externalise your managerial memory. Not so you delegate decisions to AI, but so you show up to every conversation with complete context, and can finally focus on the exchange itself.
Who it's for
Moston is built for engineering managers who directly manage several engineers and run multiple 1:1s a week. Tech leads wearing the manager hat part-time. VPs and heads of engineering who want to stay close to their teams without getting lost in the details.
If you're looking for a project management tool for your team, Moston isn't it. Linear and Jira already exist for that. Moston is a personal tool, there for you, not for your team.
